Does your application tell a complete and compelling story?

As college admissions get increasingly competitive, it’s more important than ever to stand out from the crowd. The best way to prepare is to think about applying as soon as possible and consider these 7 things when making decisions in high school.

1. How rigorous are your classes? Are you challenging yourself with AP and IB classes? It is important for colleges to see you adding these into your schedule.

2. GPA in the 5 major subjects: English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Language

3. ACT/SAT scores. Test Optional is not test blind. If your scores are consistent with your grades, it is very important to include them. They also can help with merit scholarships.

4. Involvement and Leadership. What do you do with your free time? Colleges want leaders who show that they have responsibility, creativity, research, interest and volunteered their time.

5. Enlightening personal statement. This is an essay that tells us about who you are. This is a chance to have your voice heard in the admissions process.

6. Teacher and Counselor Recommendations

7. Demographic/Personal Characteristics that help promote a diverse student population
